This converted, heavily beamed lodge was formerly The Chigborough Lodge Restaurant and Rubinos.

Situated in the courtyard at Chigborough, it is perfectly located for meeting up with friends on the campsite, in the Farm cafe or to explore the beautiful Blackwater Estuary and historic market town of Maldon.

The Cart Lodge is a beautifully restored historical barn in the main Chigborough Farm Courtyard, it has been lovingly converted to provide spacious and inviting accommodation for up to four guests.

With exposed wooden beams, traditional brickwork, and tasteful furnishings, this charming lodge exudes a warm and welcoming ambiance.

Indulge in the open-plan living area, where you can relax and unwind after a day of exploring the countryside or fishing in the private lakes. The lodge features modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay while maintaining the authenticity of a countryside escape.

Gather around the large dining table for a delightful meal, prepared in the fully-equipped kitchen that adds a touch of convenience to your stay. Or, step outside onto your private terrace and savor the peace and tranquility of the surrounding landscape.


For the avid anglers, The Cart Lodge offers easy access to the private fishing lakes, where you can cast your line and embark on a rewarding angling adventure. Whether you're an experienced angler or a beginner looking to learn, our trusted instructors are here to offer guidance and assistance.

Beyond the immediate surroundings of The Cart Lodge, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained. You can row around the lake, rent bikes to explore the area, or indulge in a relaxing massage or yoga session provided on-site. For a longer adventure, you can venture along the Blackwater Estuary, reach the sea wall, or visit the quaint and quiet town of Maldon. If you're a seafood lover, you can head to Mersea Island, known for its excellent seafood restaurants.
